As a Vitality member, you earn Ðiscovery Miles through the healthy things you already do. There are two routes. Achieving your weekly Vitality Active Rewards exercise goal earns you a gameboard play for Ðiscovery Miles, and your HealthyFood purchases pay you back in Ðiscovery Miles on qualifying spend. That is where a Vitality membership on its own builds a balance.
How you spend them works differently. Every Vitality member can spend Ðiscovery Miles on discounted rewards in the Vitality Mall through the Discovery app. A qualifying Discovery Bank product with Vitality Money adds more ways to earn and more places to spend, including the online and in-store retail partner network and Miles Ð-Day on the 15th of every month. What you can access depends on the product you hold.

What you can spend Discovery Miles on
The Vitality Mall is available in the Discovery app and gives you a range of rewards to spend your Ðiscovery Miles on, including coffees and smoothies, food and treats, everyday shopping, entertainment and gaming, MoveToGive donations and Discovery Prepaid Health, which covers a R300 GP consultation and medication.
To redeem, open the Discovery app and go to the Vitality Mall, then shop by partner or by category. At selected partners you show a QR code in-store on your phone, or enter the code online. Daily, weekly and monthly redemption limits apply, and rewards are subject to availability.
Every Wednesday, the Vitality Mall runs a Rewards Wednesday deal for 24 hours only. These offers change weekly and can bring selected rewards down to a fraction of their usual Ðiscovery Miles price, so a quick look at the Vitality Mall each Wednesday shows you what is available before it closes.
Members with a qualifying Discovery Bank product can spend Ðiscovery Miles more widely. The online and in-store retail partner network covers home, fashion and lifestyle partners including ALDO, Cape Union Mart, Exclusive Books, Nespresso, NetFlorist, Superbalist and UCOOK, among others. Purchases are made at an exchange rate of Ð10 to R1, with your discount applied automatically at checkout.
The same members can also use Ðiscovery Miles for airtime, data and SMS bundles, prepaid water and electricity, and selected digital vouchers in the Discovery Bank app. Ðiscovery Miles can be exchanged for cash paid into a Discovery Bank account, or sent to any contact with a Ðiscovery Miles Account. Once converted to cash, they cannot be converted back.
How you earn the Discovery Miles you spend
You earn Discovery Miles by getting healthier, driving well and spending responsibly. Achieve your weekly Vitality Active Rewards exercise, drive or spend goal and you choose between an instant coffee and a play on the gameboard, which is how an ordinary week builds a balance you can spend.
The gameboard is the mechanism behind the weekly reward. When you complete an exercise, drive or spend goal and choose the gameboard play, you land on a tile that awards a Discovery Miles amount. Those amounts vary by tile, and the gameboard renews each week, so consistent goal achievement compounds over time.
How HealthyFood pays back in điscovery miles
HealthyFood is the clearest way a Vitality-only member builds a Ðiscovery Miles balance through everyday spend. You qualify for 10% back in Ðiscovery Miles on activation, up to 25% back once you complete a Vitality Age assessment and a Vitality Health Check every 12 months at your chosen primary partner, and up to 75% back with a qualifying Discovery Bank product and Vitality Money.
To activate HealthyFood, get a Checkers Xtra Savings card and download the Woolworths MyDifference app, then choose a primary in-store partner and a primary online partner in the Discovery app. The benefit covers thousands of items at Checkers, Checkers Sixty60, Woolworths in-store and online, the Woolies app and Woolies Dash. Look for the Vitality indicator on shelf labels in-store and online to identify qualifying items. And then every purchase of HealthyFood items will earn you up to 25% back in Điscovery Miles.
When do your ðiscovery miles go furthest?
Two dates change how far a Ðiscovery Miles balance goes, and both depend on which Vitality programmes and Discovery products you hold.
Every Wednesday, the Vitality Mall runs a Rewards Wednesday deal for 24 hours only. This applies to every Vitality member, whether or not you hold a Discovery Bank product. The offer changes weekly, so checking the Mall each Wednesday shows you that week's deal before it closes.
Miles Ð-Day is different. It applies to members with a qualifying Discovery Bank product and Vitality Money, and it falls on the 15th of every month. Your everyday discount, which normally runs between 5% and 15% depending on how many Vitality programmes you've activated, doubles on Miles Ð-Day to between 10% and 30% off at selected online and in-store Ðiscovery Miles retail partners. A member with a 15% everyday discount gets 30% off on the 15th, automatically, with no extra action required.
If you don't have a qualifying Discovery Bank product, Miles Ð-Day doesn't apply to you, and your Ðiscovery Miles balance goes furthest through Rewards Wednesday and the discounted rewards in the Vitality Mall.
How Vitality Travel turns a điscovery miles balance into a trip
Vitality Travel lets you pay for flights, accommodation and car hire in Ðiscovery Miles. This is a Discovery Bank benefit: you need a qualifying Discovery Bank account, or a Discovery Account with zero monthly fees, and you book through the Discovery Bank app or Discovery Bank's online banking website.
Eligible members can get between 10% and 75% off local and international flights, with the discount applying to the base fare and fuel surcharges rather than the full ticket price. Vitality holiday accommodation is available at 10% to 25% off, and car hire at up to 25% off through Europcar and Tempest Car Hire. Non-discounted local and international accommodation listings are also available on the platform through Booking.com.
A Ðiscovery Miles balance built through weekly goals and HealthyFood spend can go toward any of these bookings, giving your everyday earning a use beyond the Vitality Mall.
